The idea

A launch directory is a way to reach a particular community. Choose the audience before choosing the leaderboard: Product Hunt for broad technology discovery, DevHunt for developer tools, Uneed for new digital tools, and Microlaunch for startup discovery. Match the product to the people who use the platform.

What founders found

Product Hunt’s official guide says makers can launch their own products and there is no discernible advantage to recruiting a third-party hunter. It allows sharing a launch link but asks makers not to request upvotes directly. Prepare a clear demo, screenshots, an explanation of who benefits, and time to answer comments.

How to use it

Treat launch day as the start of a cohort. Record qualified visits, activation, paid conversions and retained customers. A popular post can reveal that people enjoy an idea without showing that they will buy it. Marc Lou’s Reddit traffic and John Rush’s DevHunt milestones illustrate different results and different time windows; neither promises the same outcome for the next product.
