Launching on Product Hunt

A clear demo, an honest conversation, and a plan for the day after.

What the platform asks for

Product Hunt’s launch guide says makers can submit their own products. It does not identify an advantage from recruiting a third-party hunter. Share the launch with people who may find it useful, but do not ask for upvotes directly.

Before you launch

Write a plain-language tagline, show the product working and make the first action obvious. Check signup, payment and mobile screens. Prepare an introduction explaining the problem, your approach and the feedback you want. Leave time to answer questions.

After the leaderboard

Compare visitors, activation and paying customers by source. A ranking is a discovery signal, not revenue. Marc Lou’s account of a Reddit launch shows why traffic sources and timing matter: he reported almost 40,000 visits before his later Product Hunt result. The useful lesson is to learn where your audience already gathers.
